A Little About Me!
Research: I am a digital health equity scholar interested in combatting health disparities in communities of youth of color. Meeting for this call, she aims to utilize community-based participatory research and health systems science to develop digital health interventions, employing an egalitarian approach in all research stages, including development, testing, and implementation processes. While numerous digital modalities aid in conveying critical health information, she is particularly drawn to the potential of animation as a transformative tool to express or enhance intervention infrastructure. This medium has historically and effectively reached and engaged diverse audiences since its conception, deserving great attention in health research. I have published work in BMC Digital Health, Continuum, and the Journal of Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, advancing scholarship in health systems towards marginalized populations and intervention development. I have also been invited to various talks discussing this research.
Teaching: I have an interdisciplinary teaching record and have taught numerous standalone classes for nearly a decade. I was rigorously trained to Implement equity-mindedness, technology-enriched, and data-informed inquiry practices through Faculty Development. (FacDev). The courses I have taught are Psychological Research Methods, Introductory and Advanced Statistics, Child and Adolescent Development Methods, Introductory Psychology, and Media Economics. I am a recipient of CSUN”s Roger Moss Teaching Award (2020) and was voted as Most Valuable Professor (MVP) by CSUN Athletics Department in 2023.
Mentorship: I have contributed to the admittance of dozens of undergraduate students, many from historically underserved backgrounds, entering master’s, doctoral, and higher-learning degree programs through letter recommendation writing and graduate school preparation mentorship. I have also been invited to various talks on navigating these spaces - particularly in healthcare and psychology. I have also partaken in various pedagogical, mentorship, and research-focused training among expert and federally-funding workshops, including becoming a transdisciplinary health researcher for the University of California, Los Angeles, and taking courses in animation development to best scaffold and facilitate the design of the proposed tested stimuli. I serve as a member of university-wide mentorship programs through professional organizations (International Communication Association [ health communication division], National Communication Association [mass communication division]) and serve as a peer reviewer for various journals in health, media, and youth and adolescent areas where I was recently invited to be a peer review of Child Adolescent and Media. I have also co-led the development of university-wide conferences to help many graduate students of broad disciplines navigate higher learning and professional career paths.
